Last week’s Annual Members Meeting at the Gowanus Studio Space was truly a celebration of Gowanus Canal Conservancy’s achievements and its continuing expansion! Joviality was predominant, as we focused on celebrating our volunteer base and highlighting the tremendous work that has been done this past year and is yet to come.
Our pals at Pull Brewing Co. hooked us up with some fine brews, which only contributed to the cheery mood of the evening. Check them out on their website!
Business started off the night, including a board member re-election and a financial presentation. Scooting through the evening, volunteers presented the projects they’ve spearheaded.
These ranged from ¡Composting Gowanus! presented by our Compost Guru Erik, balloon mapping by Eymund, Salt Lot plans by Gena, Andrea, and Julia, and a Pilot Education program led by Education Mastermind Christine. The breadth of the Conservancy’s project list has expanded significantly since its infancy, and we could not be more proud.
The Conservancy honored past interns and awarded a number of our time-tested volunteers prestigious titles including:
Master Chipper – John Craver
Community Ambassador – Christine Petro
Design Dream Team – Andrea Parker, Gena Wirth, Julia Price
Smelliest Volunteer (AKA Master Composter) – Erik Martig
Most Prolific Participant – John Donnelly
Tree Steward of the Year – Bob Lesko
Garden Design/Build Award – Martin Harwood
Volunteer We Can Count On – Omar Clarke
Adult beverages and conversation continued to permeate the evening. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the Members Meeting a rockin’ success!
We look forward to seeing everyone at our next big event, our Annual Winter Festival on January 12. (Click here to buy tickets).
