On August 17th, we welcomed students from Brooklyn Law School for a special volunteer day to work on some of our ongoing projects, all based alongside the Gowanus Canal at the Salt Lot on 2nd Avenue and 5th Street.  With their invaluable time, we were able to accomplish a lot in just a few hours!

One crew painted colorful tree guards that will soon be set up around all of our adopted street trees along 6th Street… thanks to Build It Green for donating these!

As usual, there was plenty of compost turnover to be done; our volunteers successfully turned a full windrow and still had time to try out our newly constructed sifting table!

Our stenciled signs will be invaluable for keeping track of our ever-growing compost project!

For those who enjoy operating heavy machinery, the wood chipper offered a thrill that won’t soon be forgotten.

We all learned a lot about the environmental work that goes on down by the Gowanus Canal, and more than enough about handling a pitchfork as well!

A special thanks to the Brooklyn Law students for their hard work and fantastic attitudes… we hope to see their smiling faces again soon!
