If you love trees and would like to have one for free, please join us for our Spring 2012 Tree Giveaway!  We will be giving away free trees at the Salt Lot during our March 24th Clean & Green! Starting at 11:00 AM, the Gowanus Canal Conservancy will be giving away 100 trees for free, courtesy of MillionTreesNYC and New York Restoration Project. The only requirements are that you must plant the tree in the ground and on private property. This means that you may not plant the tree on the street, in a container, or on a roof.
Some of the species we will be giving away include: Winter King Southern HawthorneSouthern MagnoliaCrape Myrtle and River Birch. The trees are all planted in 3 and 7 gallon plastic containers, so please plan your transportation accordingly. The Gowanus Canal Conservancy will not make any deliveries and all trees must be picked up on the day of the giveaway. The event will occur rain or shine and is first come-first serve, so the early attendees will receive first choice of the available selection. If you are worried that you might not get a tree oryou would like one particular species from the list above, you can register early online and adopt a tree through NYRP’s website here. The event will start at 11:00am sharp, so be on time if you want to make sure we don’t run out before you get your tree. If you have any further questions, please reach out to us at tom@gowanuscanalconservancy.org
Our Clean & Green activities will include building a compost sifting table, removing trash and debris from the Salt Lot and the 2nd Ave. rain garden, weeding, creating a new berm garden, and other various tasks.
Hope to see you there!
